
GETTING A LICENSE
When getting started with BMX you must purchase a license from AusCycling. This is your Insurance when riding a BMX track. A license is required to participate at gate nights, club coaching and any Club or State racing events. BMX licenses can be purchased here

When you sign up you will need a copy of your birth certificate as proof of age. This will need to be uploaded at the time of joining.
You will also need to nominate Portland BMX Club as your preferred club for membership.

AusCycling set the license pricing and this is available on their website. There is a 4 week free membership so you can try out BMX to see if you like it.

There is equipment, clothing and safety gear that is required before you can start to race. Please see next section for further information.


EQUIPMENT & GEAR
Equipment needed to ride BMX are:

Any Bike, but a BMX race bike works best as they are specifically designed for the sport. But otherwise the bike must NOT have a front brake or chain guard. Club committee can view bike for any safety concerns. (Training wheels are not permitted - Strider bikes are allowed for mini-wheeler classes)

Full face helmet, Long sleeve top, long pants, gloves, and enclosed footwear.
Portland BMX Club, does have a small amount of loan equipment such as bikes, helmets and gloves, which can be used until your own are purchased. Please note that this is first in best dressed on the day.

You will also need to have a race plate, which can be purchased from the canteen or from our shop.

If you are an age class (not sprocket or mini-wheeler) then you will also be required to purchase a transponder and register this. These can be purchased from the registration hut or through our shop.
